Premium tax credits in 2027

  • In an October 15, 2026 proposed rule, the IRS describes current law. A taxpayer generally qualifies for the premium tax credit only if household income is “at least 100 percent but not more than 400 percent” of the federal poverty level. (IRS proposed rule, 91 FR, Oct. 15, 2026, FR Doc. 2026-21056)
  • For tax years after 2025, the 2025 tax law (Public Law 119-21) removed the cap on how much people below 400% of the poverty level must repay when advance credits were too high. (same) If your income changes during the year, update your application.
  • HealthCare.gov says 2027 income levels for savings are coming November 1. (HealthCare.gov, Lower costs) We will not estimate 2027 savings before official figures are out.

What you can do

  • Log in at HealthCare.gov on or after November 1. Update your income and household, then compare plans. Even if you are re-enrolled automatically, your plan, price or network may change.
